Evelyn was struck in awe when Max first approached her. He was so large in stature, easily standing as large as her father. It made her feel petite, just like her mother looked to her father. His skin was tanned, and his dark hair was slicked back, but a few tendrils of hair touched his cheek. She wanted to be the one that touched his tanned cheek, and for once, she felt jealous of a few pieces of hair. Evelyn smiled at him as he took her hand and kissed her knuckles, and announced to the entire ballroom that he had found his mate.

“MINE!” he roared, and there was an eruption of applause and cheers. Several girls in the corner looked on with jealousy at the couple but would soon find their own mates in their own time. Max stood next to his mate and put his hand next to her cheek, which she greedily leaned into. His eyes were a deep brown but had flickers of golden amber to them. He looked at her longingly, just the way her father looked at her mother. For once in her life, she felt content and happy and so in love. She found her mate in a place she never thought possible, and today of all days.
