It was only the second day after Malcolm had made his public proposal, and the newspapers had already written pages of articles about it. Most of the headlines were along the lines of; “The CEO of the Evans Group proposed to a female organizer at the press conference”, “the CEO of the Evans Group proposed with a two-carat pink diamond” or “the CEO of the Evans Group proposed but the lady left hanging.”

The quiet life that Lucia was used to living disappeared almost overnight. His days were now filled with dodging nosy reporters or dealing with endless rumors from his friends and colleagues. Most of her loved ones showered her with congratulations.

Lucia felt helpless. She hadn’t even accepted the engagement; why were they congratulating her? If things continued like this, the next rumor would be that she was pregnant. No matter how patient a person was, no matter how strong their will, eventually things like this would drive them crazy.
